Biography

William Pike was born in 1829 at Ogbourne St George, Wiltshire, England, and he married Mary Newman (1831 to 1919) in 1850. They had six children:

In his lifetime, William worked as an agricultural labourer, a butcher's carter, a carter, and a labourer. William died in Oxford Street, Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England, in 1904.

William Pike, the child of labourer William Pike and Elizabeth, both of Ogbourne St George, was baptised on Saturday, May 30th 1829, at Ogbourne St George by B Hawkins. [1] The assumption is that William was born the same year he was baptised and where his parents dwelled.

1850 - William's Marriage - Wiltshire, England

Twenty-one-year-old bachelor a labourer William and twenty-year-old spinster a labourer Mary Newman married on Saturday, October 12th 1850, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire. Vicar J Hawkins performed the ceremony according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church in the presence of witnesses Stephen Newman, the bride's brother, and William Frankline. Mary was the daughter of Thomas Newman and Sarah Westall. Both William and Mary lived in Axford, Wiltshire. [2]

The Hungerford Registrar recorded the birth during the quarter of 1865. Curate J Hurton baptized Eliza on Friday, January 20th 1865, at Ramsbury. Curate J Sturton interred William's four-week-old daughter, Eliza Ann Pike, at Ramsbury on Thursday, January 26th 1865. The Hungerford Registrar recorded the death in the first quarter of 1865. [12]

Curate MR Solmeady interred William's thirteen-year-old daughter, Sarah Pike, at Ramsbury on Wednesday, March 13th 1867. The Hungerford Registrar recorded the death in the first quarter of 1853. [13][14]

1867 - Birth of Daughter - Wiltshire, England

Carter William's spouse Mary bore their fifth child and fourth daughter, Emma Pike, in 1867 while they lived in Ramsbury. The Hungerford Registrar recorded the birth during the first quarter of 1867. Curate MR Edmeader baptized Emma on Friday, June 7th 1867, at Ramsbury. [15][16]

Both John and the bride Ann lived in Ramsbury. The witnesses were Jane Norris, and Wilson Cox. [20]

1904 - William's Death - Wiltshire, England

Agricultural labourer William died at Oxford Street on Wednesday, February 10th 1904 from senility, general debility and decay. Daughter Emma Bull reported the death to the Hungerford registrar on February 11th. [29][30]
