Janet Muir, the daughter of William Muir, was born in 1758 in Lanarkshire, Scotland; she had an illegitimate daughter, Agnes Gall (1800 to 1864), with a putative father, Archibald Gall (born 1758). Janet died in 1843 in Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Janet Muir, the child of William Muir, was baptised on Tuesday, January 31st 1758, in Douglas. [1] Janet was possibly born in Westoun in the Parish of Lesmahagow, the location given by the baptism record as the abode for her father, William. The baptism record does not name Janet's mother.
1800 - Birth of Daughter - Lanarkshire, Scotland
Janet gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Agnes Gall, in 1800 in Douglas.
Agnes's death record states that her reputed father is farmer Archibald Gall.
1822 - Marriage of Daughter - Lanarkshire, Scotland
Janet's -year-old daughter, Agnes Gall, married -year-old Alexander McLellan, the son of John McLellan and Mary Scott, on Saturday, October 26th 1822, in Douglas, after the proclamation of banns for three days. Both Agnes and the groom Alexander lived in Douglas. The witnessess were. [4]

On Sunday, June 6th 1841, the night of the 1841 Census, widowed parish pauper Janet lives with her son-in-law's family in Well Street, Douglas. [9] The members of Janet's extended family in the household are:

- daughter, forty-year-old Agnes McLellan
- granddaughter, fifteen-year-old Mary McLellan
- grandson, thirteen-year-old cotton hand loom weaver John McLellan

1843 - Janet's Death - Lanarkshire, Scotland
On Tuesday, March 14th 1843, Janet died in Douglas from paralysis at eighty-five years. [15]
